EMBRACE CHALLENGES AND
MAKE AN IMPACT IN ASIA

STANLEY SY, CEO OF SANOMICS LIMITED: BET ON THE FUTURE OF INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY

Entered the biotechnology field when it just started budding, Stanley has led Sanomics to successfully expand to many Asian countries within 10 years. He can still recall what his mom told him, “this high-tech business is crazy.” Though it was hard to begin, he gave it a shot. Stanley studied in Chinese University of Hong Kong, he joked about growing up just next to Science Park, watching the development of Science Park from scrape, and witnessing the improvement of biotechnology in Hong Kong. He has a unique leadership philosophy when it comes to facing challenges and ups and downs.

"When startups resolve problems, finding a way isn’t the most difficult part; being too nervous to come up with one is. I’ve learnt that if I don’t see ups and downs as a thing, then they’re not. It means, when I don’t take them as challenges, they are not. They become valuable lessons."

"It’s a bet on Innovation and Technology at heart. If no one takes the lead, then the young talents may find it too difficult to even try. I have to reassure them though biotechnology isn’t easy, it’s workable."

"We never nudge our colleagues. The suitable ones will stay and those don’t fit will leave anyway. We let our colleagues experience real market situations and decide whether or not to take it up. Colleagues who like this will choose to stay and work with us."
